The University of New England's Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is responsible for coordinating compliance with all relevant legislation and standards for research involving biohazardous materials, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), infectious agents, and materials requiring quarantine containment. The committee's primary functions include assessing the biosafety risks of proposed research, approving certain low-risk projects, and providing expert advice to researchers.
The IBC also inspects the University's physical containment facilities and manages the required training and access for staff and students. If your research involves GMOs or potentially biohazardous materials, you must apply and receive IBC approval prior to commencing your work. In addition, the IBC manages the import permits for researchers who need to import biological materials from other countries.

The IBC is seeking new independent members who live in the Armidale region. See here for more information and to apply.
