Archaeological Fieldwork – HASS (Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences)

Background

The UNE (University of New England) Mary Dolan Memorial Travelling Scholarship for Archaeological Fieldwork has been funded through an endowment provided by the Dolan family. The purpose of the scholarship is to consolidate and broaden academic and field work skills in the disciplines of study concerned with the Ancient and Medieval world through encouraging UNE students to travel to undertake work at an archaeological site as members of a team. The archaeological site can be anywhere in the world, including Australia, and the fieldwork may be oriented to any area of archaeology including, but not limited to, social archaeology, historical archaeology, or classical archaeology.

Details 

The scholarship is valued up to $6,000.00 for travel costs and is available for an enrolling or already enrolled third year undergraduate degree or continuing postgraduate degree. Students must be on campus, full time (8 units per academic year)

Eligibility and Assessment Criteria

The applicant must be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident as defined by the Commonwealth.

Applicants can be new or continuing and can be either on campus/off campus and either full time or part time.

Open to students who have completed a minimum of 96 credit points in an undergraduate degree or 24 credit points in a postgraduate degree and who are enrolled at the University of New England for study in the disciplines of

  • Classical Languages
  • Ancient History
  • Medieval History
  • Archaeology

Applicants need not already have formal training in Archaeology.

Selection Criteria/How to Apply

Student's applications will be assessed, and the successful recipient will be selected based on in order of academic merit, and then application.

Candidates must complete the HDR (Higher Degree Research) Scholarship Application form and submit to the UNE Graduate Research School along with the following.

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • 500-word statement on how the Scholarship will assist/support the study
  • Outline of Proposed research/Project/Dig
  • Evidence of invitation to join the project from the dig director
