New Colombo Plan Scholarship 2027

The New Colombo Plan (NCP) Scholarship Program supports Australian undergraduate students to strengthen their Indo-Pacific capability and Asia literacy including through study, language learning and internships, with programs up to 19 months.

The intended outcomes of the NCP Scholarship Program are:

  • scholars strengthen their Indo-Pacific capability and Asia literacy in areas of Australia’s strategic interest, including in priority host locations, languages and sectors
  • scholars are supported to engage with Australian business, including through internships, to build the cohort of work-ready, Indo-Pacific capable Australians, and to increase Australia’s economic engagement with the region
  • program alumni maintain their Indo-Pacific knowledge and capability, including language skills, and undertake continued engagement with the Indo-Pacific.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be nominated for the NCP Scholarship Program by their home university
  • be an Australian citizen;
  • not be a current citizen or permanent resident of their proposed host location(s)
  • be admitted into an Australian undergraduate degree program for which they will receive full academic credit for the study component of their NCP scholarship program
  • be between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) for non-Indigenous applicants, or between 18 and 35 years of age (inclusive) for Indigenous applicants, on 1 January 2027
  • not be a previous recipient of a New Colombo Plan Scholarship (may have received a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant)
  • not be an employee of the branch of DFAT that administers the NCP
  • commence their Scholarship program between 1 January 2027 and 15 December 2027
  • Additional eligibility upon the announcement of 2027 NCP Scholarship Guidelines may apply

How to apply

1.  Complete the Expression of Interest Form.  We will notify you when the 2027 Scholarship Guidelines are released. Submitting an EOI at this stage does not mean that you have to continue with an application for a scholarship.

2.  Be selected and nominated by the UNE selection panel

3. Prepare your Scholarship Program Application

4.  Submit your application to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Selection Criteria:

The selection panel will consider:

  • academic excellence at the tertiary level
  • leadership and engagement in the community
  • ability to contribute to NCP's strategic objective and outcomes.
