Closed Captions and Transcriptions

The Student Accessibility and Wellbeing Office (SAWO) is pleased to announce that all students have access to instant automatic closed captions and transcriptions.

How does the closed caption and transcription service work?

UNE uses two systems for video and audio recordings, Echo360 and Kaltura. Both systems display the transcripts slightly differently.

Echo360

  • To access transcripts, you need to click on the speaker icon along the taskbar to expand the transcript window on the right side of the recording; and
  • The transcript is searchable and can be downloaded as a text file by clicking on the download button next to the search bar.
  • You can turn on closed captions of the same text by clicking the 'CC' button below the video and clicking the button at the top next to 'CC' so a tick appears and it changes to green.

.

Kaltura

To access the transcripts, you need to toggle between "View Transcript" and "Hide Transcript" below the video;

  • The transcript will appear underneath the recording in a separate panel;
  • It is searchable and can be downloaded as a text file; and
  • You can turn on closed captions of the same text by clicking the 'cc' button below the video.

Should you require a higher quality transcript and/or closed captions, you will need to contact the Accessibility & Wellbeing team. Please call us on 02 6773 2897 or email accessinclusion@une.edu.au to discuss your requirements.
