$3200 First Years' Accommodation Credit Eligibility and Conditions

Overview

The 2027 First Years' Accommodation Credit is offered under the following terms and conditions. By accepting the bursary, you agree to these terms and conditions.

The 2027 First Years' Accommodation Credit is a targeted bursary to support equity outcomes for underrepresented students who received a 2027 UNE offer for full-time study and have been identified as eligible.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements.

  1. Australian Citizenship/Residency: Be an Australian citizen or hold permanent residency status.
  2. Enrolment and Course Load: Be commencing a full-time course (0.75 EFTSL or greater in a diploma or bachelor’s degree) in a Commonwealth Supported Place at UNE in Trimester 1 2027 and maintain this full-time study load through Trimester 2 2027. Students commencing a pathway course (eg TRACKS) are ineligible.
  3. Belong to one or more of the Equity Target Groups:
    • Low Socio-Economic Status (Low SES) Students: Students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.
    • Regional, Remote, and Very Remote Students: Students living in inner regional, outer regional, or remote areas of Australia.
    • First Nations Australians: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
  4. Be a recent school leaver: UNE considers you a recent school leaver if you finished Year 12 in 2026 or 2025.
  5. Accept an offer at one of the eligible colleges and enter into an accommodation agreement for at least Trimester 1 and 2.

Payment Conditions

  1. Unless you opt out, UNE will apply an Accommodation Credit of $200 against each incurred fortnightly residential room charge (excluding meals or other associated accommodation costs) during Trimester 1 and 2, capped at a maximum of $3,200.
  2. UNE accepts no liability for the impact of the Accommodation Credit on a student’s personal tax obligations or eligibility for government benefits (including Services Australia/Centrelink). It is the responsibility of the student to declare the Accommodation Credit to relevant authorities.

General Conditions

  1. You do not need to apply. Once UNE confirms you are eligible, the fortnightly Accommodation Credit is scheduled automatically on your accommodation account.
  2. Eligible students, who have received an Early Entry offer, will receive an email confirming their eligibility for the 2027 First Year Accommodation Credit. To accept an offer, you must enrol in a 2027 UNE course and enter into an accommodation agreement with a nominated residential College by midnight, 31 January 2027. The offer may be extended by UNE at its sole discretion.
  3. Other full time 2027 commencing students will be assessed at the time of application by enrolling in their course and entering into an accommodation agreement with an eligible residential College by midnight, 31 January 2027. Those eligible will receive an email confirming their 2027 First Year Accommodation Credit.
  4. The number of 2027 First Year Accommodation Credits is limited and will be distributed in order of enrolling in an eligible 2027 UNE course and entry into an accommodation agreement with a nominated residential College prior to the closing date.
  5. The 2027 First Years' Accommodation Credit will not be paid to you in cash for any reason. When you accept the offer (while you meet all terms and conditions) credits will be applied to your residential college accommodation account during Trimester 1 and 2 for your first year of study only.
  6. If you withdraw and/or transfer from UNE, reduce your study to less than 0.75 EFTSL during Trimester 1 or 2, or terminate your accommodation agreement early during Trimester 1 or 2, you immediately forfeit any remaining instalments of the Accommodation Credit. You will not receive any refund or cash payout of the Accommodation Credit component of your residential accommodation fees. In the event of an overpayment due to late notification, you may be issued an invoice to recover the overpaid amount.
  7. The 2027 First Year Accommodation Credit is not transferrable to another person and cannot be deferred.
  8. You must adhere to all UNE’s policies and procedures relating to student and academic conduct. Failure to do so, may result in the Accommodation Credit being withdrawn.
  9. UNE reserves the right to assess and verify eligibility for the 2027 First Year Accommodation Credit and a decision to award or not award the Accommodation Credit is final and no appeal will be allowed.
  10. If you are under the age of 18 years at the time of accepting the Accommodation Credit, your parent or legal guardian must also acknowledge and agree to these terms and conditions, including the recovery provisions in condition 6, before any funds are applied.
  11. UNE collects personal information of potential students including for the purpose of assessing eligibility and administering the Accommodation Credit in accordance with the University’s Privacy Management Rule, which is established pursuant to the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW). Supply of personal information is voluntary however, if it is not provided, your eligibility may not be able to be assessed or the Accommodation Credit administered. Any requests to access, update or correct information should be made to accommodation@une.edu.au.
  12. Participants agree to the use of their personal information by the University in connection with assessing eligibility and administering the Accommodation Credit and to the disclosure of their personal information to third parties in connection with the Accommodation Credit, including for reporting or statistical purposes, such as the Department of Education or parties that provide products or services to the University.
