Robb College - Head of College Report

Sally Strelitz

May 2024

Since the beginning of the trimester, Robb has been a hive of activity. Since the arrival of around 70 new first-year students in February, we don’t seem to have stopped. Orientation week was an excellent start to our first years University experience and was ably led by our 2024 Junior Common Room and Resident Leaders.  Then the returning students arrived back and the College was busy again with everyone excited to be back after such a long break and keen to meet the new students.

One of the highlights of recent weeks was our Commencement and Academic Dinner, which saw an impressive turnout of approximately 200 attendees. It was a night of celebration as many of our students were recognised for their outstanding academic achievements. Moreover, we appreciated the Robb Foundation scholarship sponsors in attendance, many of whom are Robb Alumni. Their presence provided invaluable inspiration to our current students as they shared their career journeys and experiences.

We’re proud to announce our partnership with Anya's Wish for this year's annual charity.  The charity long lunch was held on March 16th where auction items, kindly donated, added to the money we are raising for this charity. Anya's Wish is a pioneering research project at the Children's Cancer Institute, dedicated to finding more effective and safer treatments for osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer. Named in memory of the vibrant and courageous Anya Zuber who was an Armidale local.  Anya’s parents Liz and Will along with her brother Alexander attended the lunch and the students were moved to learn more about the charity and also Anya’s life.  We invite you to contribute to this cause by donating to our Robb Charity Account BSB: 932-000, Account: 100397965.

In addition to our charitable endeavours, we recently hosted the annual Robb College Parents Weekend. This weekend included the Robb College Art Show, the Parents Ball where we had around 450 attendees as well as the Women in Sport Breakfast on the Sunday morning to celebrate the Robb Mothers for Mother’s Day.

We played St Alberts College in all sports and Robb took away the win in Rugby in both First Grade (24-11) and Women’s Rugby (15-12), Netball (A’s had a draw 32-32), Hockey (draw).

The whole weekend had a fantastic atmosphere and the students loved their parents coming to visit and meeting their friends and we raised an amazing $25,000 for Anya’s Wish charity over the weekend.

Furthermore, we're embarking on an ambitious renovation project to enhance the living spaces at Robb College. Over the next few months we will begin transforming every room of the College with the aim of completing the entire renovation by the end of 2025. This investment underscores the Universities commitment to providing a top-tier living environment for our students that fosters academic success and personal growth.

As we strive for excellence, we're embracing the motto of "relentless Robb promotion" this year. Every action our students take is geared towards promoting Robb and strengthening our brand. We invite you, our alumni, to join us in this Endeavor. Whether it's visiting your old schools or local communities to share your Robb experience, your support is invaluable in shaping and growing the future of Robb College.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in the Robb College community. We look forward to connecting with you and collaborating on future initiatives.
