Upcoming carpark, road and pedestrian disruptions

Issue: Carpark Closure, Vehicle Access and Pedestrian Access

Reason: Contractor Construction Area

Project Background:

To ensure continuity of electrical supply to key research and teaching areas, the university is replacing two (2) existing 500kVA chamber substations (SUB2200) located within Riggs Building with two (2) 1,000 kVA pad mount substations adjacent to Riggs Building. To minimise interruptions to business activities and electrical supply, the existing installations are being modified to incorporate a new LV infrastructure containing the following upgrades;

  1. New 1,600 Amp LV precinct boards, including outdoor housing
  2. New HV &  LV underground infrastructure to Natural Resources,  McClymont, Zoology and Booth Building areas
  3. Replacement of existing 800mm stormwater pipeline at Library road and Chemistry Road intersection
  4. Replacement of Stokes building carpark
  5. Replacement of Chemistry Road
  6. Repairs and resealing of works areas within Library Road
  7. Removal of trees that are affecting underground services and roadways

The works is expected to commence 8th August 2022 with the completion date of February 2023. Both Vehicle and pedestrian access will be affected in the following locations.

·        Closure of unsealed carpark along Library Road

·        Closure of Chemistry road and associated carparks

·        Traffic management along Library road

·        Pedestrian access between Natural Resources road and Lewis Lecture theatre

·        Pedestrian access around Booth block
