From winning the Yvonne Austen Scholarship in Agriculture, to being named a Robb College Resident Leader in her final year of study, Bachelor of Agribusiness (Marketing and Management) student Georgie Orman says the opportunities and experiences she's had at UNE have been invaluable to helping her achieve her study goals.
Currently in her third year of study with ambitions to someday work in the agricultural marketing and business space, Georgie reflects on her time at UNE below.
What sparked your interest in your course?
I chose UNE because I’d heard positive things from many of my friends who had studied a Bachelor of Agribusiness and enjoyed it. The marketing aspect within my degree sparked my interest in the course, as I feel that agriculture will always rely on marketing. I'm now in my third year, and it's been a really positive experience.
What do you love about the agricultural industry?
I love that all sections of agriculture are working towards providing the world with quality food, fuel, feed, and fibre. I also love the cattle aspect of agriculture because it allows people to selectively breed a certain type of animal for a certain type of environment or industry.
What has been a highlight of studying at UNE?
The best thing about studying at UNE has been the ongoing support from the Student Services Team. If you’re ever unsure of anything, they’re always there to support you.
UNE has also given me a number of opportunities, for example, I was the recipient of the Yvonne Austen Scholarship in Agriculture, which helps assist my studies financially. I’ve also had the chance to work within different agricultural sectors in the holidays to gain experience, including harvesting, irrigating and selective stud cattle breeding.
Are you studying on-campus or off-campus?
I am on-campus and attend Robb College, which has been a great experience. My favourite thing about Robb is the people you meet, the friends you make and the connections you gain. It is a great atmosphere to meet people of all ages, backgrounds, and careers. This year, I've also been given the position of '2022 Resident Leader - Academic' which has been a good opportunity.
What would you say to someone considering studying a Bachelor of Agribusiness?
Always ask questions and try and talk to people who have studied the degree before. UNE provides students with excellent learning facilities and there is always support provided when needed.
