The University of New England has completed the rollout of Madgwick Student, an enterprise AI platform now available to every enrolled student in time for Trimester 1 teaching.
Every UNE student now has access to this free, secure, university-managed workspace that gives them access to a range of AI tools; enables them to build their own team of AI assistants; and supports study in preparation for an AI-enabled workplace.
The platform moves far beyond a simple chat interface locked to a single model provider like ChatGPT or Copilot. It provides an integrated AI workspace where students can build their own team of AI assistants tailored to their specific study habits.
These assistants bring search, planning, coding, and research capabilities into a single unified environment.
UNE Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chris Moran, said every employer expects graduates who can work confidently with AI.
“We have made sure every UNE student can graduate with that capability - with the right tools, the right training, and the right ethical framework.
"This represents a significant institutional investment in our students' futures. Madgwick Student is now core infrastructure, available to every enrolled student from day one."

Madgwick Student provides:
- Multi-model choice - premium AI models, no subscriptions
- Custom assistant creation - students build task-specific AI assistants
- Integrated tools via Model Context Protocols (MCPs) - assistants connect to approved systems and tools
- Institutionally supported, secure infrastructure - private interactions, no AI training on user data, NSW-hosted
- AI safety training - mandatory safety onboarding for every student.
