RUN is a network of six universities based in regional Australia. Members work together to contribute to the growth of regional economies and communities; they ensure that higher education is accessible and achievable, and produce qualified professionals needed for regional development.

The position of Chair rotates among the Vice-Chancellors of member regional universities every two years. Professor Moran succeeds Southern Cross University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Tyrone Carlin, who has led the network with distinction for the past two years.

Professor Moran said he is honoured to lead the peak body for regional universities and champion the critical role regional Australia plays in the shaping the national tertiary education agenda.

“Regional Australia is home to our most resilient and innovative communities. Yet, the disparity between metropolitan and regional educational outcomes remains a critical challenge that demands ongoing attention.

“My priority as Chair is to steadfastly advocate for regional universities and the communities they serve.  It is time that the systemic inequities regional Australians face regarding access to essential services, education, infrastructure, and fair funding models is addressed.

“I look forward to ensuring that the voice of regional Australia is central to the formation of higher education policy,” said Professor Moran.

CEO of RUN, Alec Webb said regional universities are the anchor institutions of their communities, driving both economic growth and social cohesion.

“Professor Moran’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for our sector as we begin to see the implementation of significant reform. I look forward to working closely with Professor Moran to build on the significant momentum cultivated by Professor Carlin,” he said.

“Together, we will continue to champion the message that a strong regional university sector is fundamental to a prosperous and resilient Australia."

Professor Moran paid tribute to the outgoing Chair, Professor Tyrone Carlin, noting his significant impact on the work of the Regional Universities Network.

“I would like to sincerely thank Professor Carlin for his exemplary leadership over the last two years.

“His dedication and strategic guidance have been invaluable to the network, and he leaves a formidable legacy of advocacy that I am eager build upon,” he said.
