The UNE Council met for their July meeting in Armidale.

Chancellors Report

On behalf of the Council, I was pleased to welcome UNE’s new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chris Moran, to his first Council meeting and Retreat this week. Professor Moran reflected on his first few weeks in office and the encouraging conversations he has had with staff and students.

Vice-Chancellors Report

The Vice-Chancellor provided a brief overview of his first few weeks, which consisted mainly of staff and student meetings and familiarising himself with our Armidale campus. He is in listening mode, noting key matters raised included UNE’s TEQSA reregistration, a mix of current strategic initiatives and projects and business as usual activities, and the Ernst and Young report on culture which is of immediate focus for the Executive Team and Council.

UNE Student Council

Student Representative Ms Emma Wellham provided an update on the UNE Student Council, formerly the Student Consultative Committee (SCC).

Council commended Ms Wellham and students involved with the SCC and Student Council on their ongoing work over the years. Ms Wellham advised Council of exciting new changes and ongoing projects, including finalising the new terms of reference, a new student newsletter and website, upcoming elections and SSAF funding round. Ms Wellham noted that membership under the new Council has will increased from 16 to 29 representatives to encourage a broad range of participation.

The next Council meeting will be held on Friday 29 September.
