Startup summer school to test those hot ideas

Published 14 October 2022

The trick about entrepreneurship and startup success is that it’s really learning a process of how to take an idea and see if it has legs. From this trimester, UNE will offer for the first time a unit of study which does just that.

Using the internationally acclaimed 100 Steps2Startup Program developed by entrepreneur Professor Sean Wise, students in any degree can enrol now in BUS199 Startup Development this summer. Students will use the tools for building a startup and test out their ideas.

This unit is hands-on, no-nonsense and practical, and is relevant to anyone who wants to solve problems and develop solutions into a potential enterprise.

“The best way to learn about business is to solve a problem and take an idea and test it,” says Dr Lou Conway, Director of the UNE SMART Region Incubator.

“UNE Business School and the UNE SMART Region Incubator are working together to make this an exceptional learning experience for students, no matter what degree they are studying.

The best way to learn about business is to solve a problem and take an idea and test it.

“The intensive school for BUS199 will be held at NOVA, UNE’s own business incubator in Armidale, where there are founders bringing to market solutions for agriculture, health, the environment, creative and cultural industries.

“Getting to hear how founders are going about designing their businesses and reaching customers means this is also a great way to build connections and networks.”

Taking a startup development program in your degree can put you in the forefront of your next career move. Managing Director of Nutrien Ag Solutions, Rob Clayton, said in a recent media interview that agriculture needed “enthusiastic people with a startup mentality and willingness to fail fast, learn from those failures and grab new opportunities”.

What a great way to grab these skills in a summer school! Enrolments are open now.
