The panel discussion will feature local MP Kevin Anderson, Member for Tamworth and representatives of local education and industry.

Project Director at UNE, Naomi Nielsen said STEM Q is the first model of its kind in Australia. It brings communities, businesses, and educators together to develop new styles of education and potential new industries and jobs.

“STEM refers to science, technology, engineering and maths. Through STEM Q, UNE and its partners are investing in new ideas, technology and people to position the NENW to become a powerhouse of the future,” Ms Nielsen said.

“STEM Q builds on UNE’s existing network of study centres, research facilities, incubators and partnerships. It removes the traditional boundaries that have existed between learning, research and industry to create hubs in major regional centres housing teams of stakeholders.

"It focuses on the four key areas of agriculture and agribusiness, health and wellbeing, digital intelligence, and STEM infrastructure. It will offer the education and training that future industry needs, where it’s needed, and stimulate the kinds of jobs that will keep young people in their regional communities.”

Tamworth Business Chamber Board Member Stephen Maher, said the event is a great opportunity to bring together UNE, small business, and industry from across the region and provide the business community the opportunity to learn more about STEM Q.

“I encourage the Tamworth business community to take advantage of hearing from both UNE and our panel members on innovation with STEM in our region.

“March is small business month and the Chamber is hosting a series of events and workshops on a range of topics.”
