Robb College students raise thousands for flood affected communities

When Robb College’s student Director of Charity for the Junior Common Room, Abbie McEvoy, saw the devastation caused by the flooding in Northern NSW and Queensland, she knew she and her fellow Robbers had to do something.

Wanting to help in any way they could, Abbie and the 2022 leadership team set up a Go Fund Me page which has raised more than $6000 in a week.

“The money we raise over these next couple of weeks will go straight to affected Robb families to help make this horrible experience a little easier,” says the UNE Bachelor of Business student.

“Given the success of the campaign, we also hope that we will have additional funds to support other groups in the flood impacted area and that we can help local community groups who can make local purchases to help their local flooded business get back on their feet.”

So many people have had their lives ripped from underneath them, so it’s really important for us to go and offer support in any way that we can.

On top of the money raised through the public Go Fund Me page, Abbie and the leadership team have organised a college trivia night for Robb students and affiliates, with all proceeds to go to the cause. The college has also raised $2500 after a number of students worked the gate at the Armidale Show over the weekend, bringing the total money raised so far to more than $8000.

In the coming weeks, a group of Robb College leaders will travel to Lismore to personally deliver the funds to affected families and assist with the clean-up.

“So many people have had their lives ripped from underneath them, so it’s really important for us to go and offer support in any way that we can,” she says.

“Whether it’s helping people rebuild their homes, or just assisting them to get their lives back in order, every little bit counts.”
