A long career of distinguished work in the field of animal nutrition has earned UNE Professor Roger Hegarty a Fellowship of the Australian Association of Animal Science.
Professor Hegarty joined UNE full-time in 2011 after many years serving as an adjunct lecturer while working with the NSW Department of Primary Industries.
While with DPI, he recognised the necessity of investigating the role of ruminant methane, a greenhouse gas, in climate change. Since 2001 he has worked on means of reducing methane output from ruminants without damaging productivity. He has addressed many international conferences and published widely on the subject, and contributed to Australian policy development around the issue.
Prof. Hegarty was presented with his Fellowship from the Australian Association of Animal Sciences during an online conference this week. The award cited "his contribution to teaching, research and leadership in the field of ruminant nutrition".
