Abstract
This study uses nationally representative Brazilian datasets to examine the effect of retirement on health behaviours. Findings suggest that retirement increases the likelihood of engaging in physical activity and maintaining a healthy diet.
However, the evidence that retirement influences drinking, smoking and sleep disorders is mixed. More generally, the evidence for changing health behaviours (i.e., increased physical activity and improved diet) upon retirement could improve health and life satisfaction among Brazilian retirees.
