The Curriculum Committee of Academic Board is a key governing committee of the University which oversees aspects of the University's curricula by:

  • undertaking systemic quality overview of the course profile and internal and external course accreditation including professional accreditation and third-party provider delivery, and provide recommendations to Academic Board on standards and measures of quality in relation to the course profile.
  • providing critical scrutiny of course proposals, as define in the Course and unity Policy, and
    • make recommendations for endorsement to Academic Board as appropriate
    • endorse to Academic Board course review outcomes and re-approval of courses
    • endorse to Academic Board teach-out plans for course discontinuation.
  • approving significant course amendments.
  • overseeing the schedule of comprehensive course reviews.
  • received and reviewing summary reports from Education Quality Directorate on annual course monitoring to confirm and improve course design and quality of all courses within UNE's course profile, and:
    • referring course(s) exhibiting
      • performance below institutional benchmarks and/or quality parameters to Heads of School for consideration
      • persistent performance below institutional benchmarks and/or quality parameters to Executive Team (via Deputy Vice-Chancellor) for consideration.
    • ensuring monitoring is conducted to confirm and improve course design and quality.
  • receiving and reviewing from Education Quality Directorate:
    • a three-year rolling list of courses for review in any given year, endorsed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor
    • annual reporting on the progress, completions and outcomes of course reviews
    • unit monitoring, including results, completions, and engagement, and outcomes of unit evaluations
    • annual report on progress, completions and outcomes of unit reviews.
  • receiving reports from School Education Committees:
    • annual summary of course monitoring to confirm and improve course design quality
    • confirming relevant policy and procedures have been followed
    • annual summary of unit monitoring.
  • reviewing and making recommendations to Academic Board on policies related to course development and review, and admission and credit where required (excluding higher degree by research courses.
  • identifying and reporting to Academic Board any risks associated with academic governance of the University's curriculum.

The Committee will provide students with opportunities to participate in academic governance.

The Committee will receive a report after each graduation event, indicating recommendations following a review of any issues and positive experiences with the ceremony, the graduation processes, corrections and other quality matters to oversee risks.

Meeting Dates

Curriculum Committee meetings are currently held in person at the UNE Armidale campus and via videoconference (Zoom) from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Observers are welcome to attend Curriculum Committee meetings but are asked to seek an invitation from the Chair by emailing academicboard@une.edu.au at least one week prior to the meeting.

Curriculum Committee papers and minutes (and past papers from University Academic Programs Committee) can be accessed by Academic Board and Academic Board Committee members can login to Moodle and choose to view "Academic Board Meeting Papers and Reading Room".
