Unit and Teaching Evaluation Surveys
Both Unit and Teaching Evaluation Surveys are conducted at the end of each teaching period. Evaluations are conducted using a dedicated survey software called EvaSys. The surveys are an important mechanism of obtaining students opinion and feedback on the units we offer and provides a valuable insight for unit coordinators, lecturers/tutors and other school and faculty staff.
Students are sent an invitation to participate in the online surveys for each unit they are enrolled in via their UNE e-mail accounts and the e-mail contains a link to the online survey for that particular unit. Students can also access the survey via the 'My Feedback Surveys' page within MyLearn (MyLearn log-in required first).
Unit Evaluation Surveys
Unit Evaluations are mandatory and are conducted on all unit offerings encompassed in UNE’s Unit Monitoring Program.
The evaluation process is student-centric and students are invited to provide feedback on a unit using the following two sets of questions:
Unit Evaluation
Quantitative
1.1 - I had access to sufficient learning material to meet the unit learning outcomes
1.2 - The unit was intellectually stimulating
1.3 - Assessment tasks in this unit enabled me to demonstrate the unit learning outcomes
1.4 - I received constructive feedback on my assessment task(s)
1.5 - Overall, I was satisfied with this unit
Qualitative
1.6 - Which aspect(s) of this unit did you find most effective for your learning experience?
1.7 - Which aspect(s) of this unit could be improved to enhance the student learning experience?
Results
Results are analysed and reported through UNE's Unit Monitoring Program each trimester. Individual Unit results as well as other performance metrics are available on the Unit Monitoring dashboard provided by Business Intelligence Services, while summaries of School, Faculty and University summaries are provided on the Unit and Teaching Evaluation Results page.
Teaching Evaluation
Teaching Evaluation Surveys invite students to provide feedback and evaluation of the quality of teaching they received during the delivery of a Unit. They are an optional set of questions which may be included in conjunction with the unit evaluation survey at the request of Unit Coordinators, Lecturers, Tutors and other teaching staff. Teaching staff are invited by EQD, via an email notification, to request a Teaching Evaluation during the survey preparation period.
If requested, students will be invited to provide their feedback using the following two sets of questions:
Quantitative
2.1 - The lecturer(s) demonstrated thorough knowledge of the subject area
2.2 - The lecturer(s) provided clear and appropriate answers to student questions
2.3 - The lecturer(s) treated all students fairly and equally
2.4 - The lecturer(s) encouraged participation and/or questions
2.5 - The lecturer(s) made effective use of teaching aids and media where appropriate
2.6 - The lecturer(s) were available for consultation and individual help where needed
2.7 - Overall, the lecturer(s) were effective in facilitating my learning
2.8 - I would recommend that other students take a unit taught by the lecturer(s)
Qualitative
2.9 - Indicate the major strengths of the lecturer(s) that you have seen or experienced this semester
2.10 - Indicate any areas for improvement that you feel the lecturer(s) could work on developing into strengths
Results
Results of the evaluation are made available to the Unit Coordinator/s, Lecturer/s or Tutor/s of the unit that has been assessed.
Teaching evaluations are private to the individual named on the survey. However, in the event of a serious complaint being received regarding the teaching of a unit, relevant evaluation information may be made available to the Head of School, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Faculty Dean.
