Unit information
Hone your abilities for independent study with this unit, which offers you the opportunity for an in-depth investigation of a pharmacy related topic.
By refining your critical thinking, problem solving, presentation and writing, you will be positioning yourself at the forefront of innovation with skills that are in demand in the workplace.
In this unit you will plan, implement and disseminate the results of a research project. You will be able to delve into an area of pharmacy, guided by a supervisor with experience of the topic and methodology.
The unit will consolidate your knowledge gained from your foundation years of pharmacy study and you will use your understanding of research methods to conduct your project. Application of these skills will allow you to assess and adapt your research process as it evolves through the project.
You will critique and evaluate your findings, presenting and defending your research outcomes and extending your writing skills by preparing a manuscript suitable for submission to an academic journal, and presenting your research to your peers and mentors.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- investigate and critically analyse complex problems related to pharmacy practice, related sciences, or policy, and identify and formulate appropriate evidence-based solutions;
- plan and execute a research project in an area relevant to pharmacy practice, related sciences, or policy;
- synthesise, analyse and evaluate the existing and/or new data and relate it to the pharmacy practice, related sciences, or policy; and
- present their research outcomes in both written and oral forms.
