Unit information
The role of a psychologist in an educational context involves unique professional challenges and opportunities. This unit will focus on psychological practice in primary schools and high schools, across government, non-government and independent school environments.
Throughout this unit, you will develop applied knowledge and skills relevant to the specialised roles and responsibilities of psychologists within multidisciplinary educational contexts, enabling you to extend your psychological practice skills into school psychology settings.
You will examine whole of school and group approaches to wellbeing and culturally responsive practice, and develop skills in assessing and responding to various professional, ethical, risk and practice dilemmas which are particular to the educational context.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate understanding of the roles of other professionals and the ability to engage collaboratively with colleagues within a multi-disciplinary team in a school setting;
- identify ethical and professional issues particular to the school context and apply an ethical decision making model to inform response;
- develop and implement a safety plan in response to identified risk within a school context;
- demonstrate cultural awareness and the ability to engage in culturally responsive practice within a school setting;
- critically review whole school approaches to wellbeing and identify effective engagement and implementation strategies.
