Unit information
Creating positive outcomes for all clients is the backbone upon which effective case management is built. Identifying your own limitations and the resources that are available to make these positive outcomes, is the balancing act.
This unit will explore this balance and assist in developing your own depth of connections and skills to enhance outcomes for your clients. Additionally, studying this unit will assist you in developing the skills and knowledge required as an Allied Health / Community Services professional to enhance opportunities for those in the community with high and complex needs.
Utilising trauma-informed practice and human development principles, you will focus on identifying, prioritising, justifying and implementing case management strategies that make best use of limited resources while also facilitating favourable outcomes individually tailored for specific client requirements.
Developing strong leadership skills in case management practice, you will hone your communication skills to effectively share information on practical issues of case management with professional colleagues, and advocate for your clients. Working independently, you will also learn to plan and provide appropriate services to promote the wellbeing and welfare of clients with complex needs.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate advanced skills and leadership in advising professional colleagues and disseminating information, regarding practical issues associated with case management and case management practice;
- demonstrate an understanding of complex behaviours and ability to articulate these in the context of case planning and service provision;
- apply an advanced breadth and depth of knowledge of human development, trauma informed practice and best practice as they relate to provision of specific services; and
- demonstrate an understanding of the impact of financial independence and agency and the importance of advocating for and supporting clients.
