Unit information
Extend your knowledge of motor learning and control to develop a deeper appreciation of the neurophysiological basis of human movement and consider how this may change throughout the lifespan.
This unit builds on the knowledge you have gained in prerequisite units by examining the conceptual, theoretical, and applied nature of motor control and human development.
By reviewing and interpreting relevant literature, you will investigate the significance of the sensorimotor system both within typical and atypical movement contexts. You will also consider the psychosocial and functional changes that occur across the lifespan from gestation to old age.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- analyse and describe key developmental changes in physiologic and sensorimotor systems from childhood to older adulthood, including atypical development;
- evaluate and analyse typical and atypical trajectories in motor development and their implications for functional movement; and
- demonstrate and apply an understanding of motor impairment to analyse and assess real-world clinical scenarios.
