Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the models of pedagogy of the Junior Secondary Mathematics Syllabus (Stages 4 and 5) including Stage 3, a K–12 perspective, the Life Skills curriculum and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives (GTSD 1.3.1, 1.6.1, 2.1.1, 2.2.1, 2.3.1, 2.4.1, 2.6.1);
2. organise content into effective learning and teaching sequences and lesson plans, demonstrating knowledge and understanding of strategies for differentiating teaching to meet the specific learning needs of students across the full range of abilities (GTSD 1.3.1, 1.6.1, 2.1.1, 2.2.1, 2.3.1, 2.4.1, 2.5.1, 3.1.1, 3.5.1);
3. plan a suite of ‘assessment for learning’ and ‘assessment of learning’ to assess students’ learning while using curriculum, assessment and reporting knowledge to design learning sequences and lesson plans (GTSD 1.3.1, 2.3.1, 2.6.1, 3.1.1, 3.2.1, 3.5.1);
4. show an understanding of the implication of learning theories in designing effective learning activities, assessment, differentiation and feedback (GTSD 1.3.1, 1.6.1, 2.1.1, 2.2.1, 2.3.1, 2.4.1, 2.5.1, 2.6.1, 3.2.1, 3.5.1); and
5. understand a rationale for appropriate sources of professional learning in order to incorporate a wide range of tools, resources, and innovative strategies and ethical use of ICT in learning and teaching (GTSD 1.3.1, 1.6.1, 2.1.1, 2.2.1, 2.3.1, 2.6.1, 3.5.1).
