Unit information
This unit will help to upskill you in intuitive ways to report statistics in science. It also will equip you with the capacity to critically evaluate psychology research, run advanced statistical techniques, and effectively communicate your findings - skills that are invaluable for roles in psychology and many related fields.
By introducing you to several advanced techniques commonly used in psychology and other life sciences, this unit will help you fine tune your ability to select the appropriate statistical method depending on the research question at hand.
You will be equipped to use SPSS to conduct a range of statistical analyses, with the practical exercises giving you hands-on experience with different ANOVAs, different multiple regressions and factor analysis.
To successfully complete this unit, you must have access to the internet and a computer capable of running SPSS.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- critically evaluate research in the psychological literature;
- select appropriate data analytic strategies to apply to a wide range of research problems and data sets;
- use SPSS to conduct several advanced statistical analysis including: different ANOVA's, different multiple regressions, and factor analysis;
- correctly interpret the SPSS output for each of the statistical procedures covered in the unit;
- write APA style research reports that summarise the results and communicate the findings to others; and
- demonstrate teamwork and interpersonal skills when solving statistical problems in a collaborative setting.
