Biography
Dr Schmidt is an ecologist studying how global change influences ecosystem functioning, biodiversity and species interactions. Her research focuses on pollination ecology and plant-pollinator systems, with particular expertise in pollinator diversity, including bees and flower-visiting flies. She uses a combination of field-based studies, manipulative experiments and emerging technologies to understand the ecological drivers of community dynamics and ecosystem processes. Her work addresses applied questions in conservation and land management, particularly how to support insect communities and maintain ecosystem services in changing agricultural, urban and natural landscapes. She is especially interested in the role of non-bee pollinators and the integration of ecological research into practical strategies for biodiversity conservation under global change.
