Biography

Dr. Jonathan McLachlan completed his Bachelor of Rural Science (Hons I) in 2016 before going on to complete his PhD at UNE (in collaboration with CSIRO) in 2020. Jonathan’s PhD thesis focused on the importance of root traits for phosphorus acquisition efficiency among cultivars of subterranean clover. He was awarded the Chancellor’s Doctoral Research Medal for this research. Following this, Jonathan worked as a Research Fellow where he investigated the phosphorus management and requirements of tropical legume pasture swards, before being appointed as the Lecturer in Pasture Science and Grazing Management at UNE. Jonathan continues to undertake research into the agronomy and nutrition of both temperate and tropical grazing systems. He also teaches into a range of undergraduate units, in which he focuses on a holistic understanding of grazing systems.
