Biography
Ben Kilby is a Senior Lecturer in Pedagogy at the University of New England. His research advances meaningful and inclusive learning through three interconnected strands: philosophy in schools and the cultivation of strong thinking practices, dialogic pedagogy that enriches classroom discussion, and feminist philosophy with a focus on gender and inclusion.
His work in Philosophy for/with Children (P4wC) investigates how sustained philosophical inquiry empowers students to become thoughtful, independent thinkers. It equips learners with the intellectual tools to navigate complexity, appreciate diverse perspectives, and sustain curiosity across the lifespan. A second area of research examines classroom dialogue, with an emphasis on designing and facilitating discussions in which every student’s contribution is valued, and where dialogic practices are intentionally structured to include diverse learners. A third focus addresses feminist philosophy, gender, and inclusion, aiming to disrupt, dismantle, and deconstruct gender dualistic structures in order to inform inclusive practice and remove barriers to participation.
By integrating philosophical inquiry, meaningful and inclusive dialogue, and gender equity, Ben's scholarship seeks to shape educational environments in which critical thinking, engagement, and a strong sense of belonging can flourish.
