Research Fellow - Applied Agricultural Remote Sensing Centre

Jack Brown-Kenyon

Biography

Jack is a Research Fellow specialising in Product Delivery & Applied GIS at AARSC. His focus is turning complex real-world inputs (field survey and GNSS capture, partner datasets and remote sensing outputs) into production-ready geospatial products that support day-to-day decisions.

A key part of Jack’s role is bridging the gap between research and real-world uptake. He works closely with partners to clarify what matters, translate needs into a prioritised delivery plan, and iterate tools based on user feedback (often using Agile-style workflows). His current work includes leading GIS delivery for Dilmah Tea Company’s plantation mapping program, where automated QA checks revealed ~20-30% discrepancies between surveyed and legacy records. He is also strengthening data pipelines that support the Australian Tree Crop Map, and progressing partner-focused GIS solutions with the Australian Banana Growers Council.

Before joining AARSC, Jack worked in operational, consulting-style environments; most recently as a GIS Advisor on a gas pipeline program for Shell, and previously in international public health programs with the World Mosquito Program.
