Perrott Family Science Prize

Background

Established in 2004 by UNE physics graduate Dr Colin Perrott and wife Ann Perrott, this prize aims to support a UNE student’s Honours or postgraduate research.  The successful applicant will undertake research which will “contribute to society through science and technology and ultimately improve the quality of human life and sustain the natural environment”.

Who Can Apply?

  1. Australian Citizen/Permanent Resident:
    The applicant must be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident, as defined by the Commonwealth and resident in Australia.
  2. Full-time preferred, though part-time may be considered.
  3. On campus preferred, though online applicants may be considered.
  4. Open to commencing and continuing UNE students enrolled in Honours or Higher Degree by Research. Honours defined as 48 credit points, full-year Honours research program.
  5. Higher Degree by Research includes: Doctor of Philosophy and Masters by Research degrees.
  6. The applicant must be completing research in a science or technology area, which will “contribute to society through science and technology and ultimately improve the quality of human life and sustain the natural environment”.

Selection Criteria

Applications are assessed on merit and should include a description of the Honours/postgraduate research project and proposed outcomes from the Award.

Notes

  1. Preference may be given to applicants who have not previously been granted this Award.
  2. Preference may be shown to students studying honours or higher degree by research on campus, full-time. In the absence of on campus, full-time applicants, preference is for on campus, part-time students, and then for online applicants, either part-time or full-time.
  3. The award shall be made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Science, Agriculture, Business and Law, Higher Degree Research Committee and administered by the Graduate Research School.
  4. The Selection Committee’s decision is final.

Supporting Documents / Required Information

  1. HDR candidates must provide a statement of support from their Principal Supervisor.
  2. Honours applicants must provide a statement of research area and academic transcripts if prior study was not taken at UNE.
