UNE’s transition to the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research 2018
In June 2018 the NHMRC, in conjunction with the ARC and Universities Australia, released a new
Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research 2018 and a new Guide to
Managing and Investigating Potential Breaches of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct
of Research 2018. Before 1 July 2019 all Australian Universities must be compliant with the
2018 Code and to have in place a process to manage potential breaches of the Code that aligns with
the Guide. Compliance with the 2018 Code is a requirement for the receipt of funding by NHMRC
and ARC.
The Research Integrity Office is currently developing and consulting on a revised Code of Conduct for
Research Rule (CCR) and a new Procedures for Investigating Research Conduct Breaches or Related
Complaints (new Procedures). Following consultation, these two documents will be considered by
both the UNE Research Committee and Academic Board prior to being approved before 1 July 2019.
The 2018 Code will be accompanied by a series of guides e.g. Authorship Guide. Once the NHMRC
and the ARC have released the guides, other relevant UNE policies and guidelines will be reviewed to
align with these guides.
During the current transition period the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research
2007 (2007 Code) remains current.
