UNE Art Collection

The University of New England's  nationally significant art collection was founded in 1938 . The collection was established through philanthropic donations. It supports creative practice in education. The living collection fosters emerging and established regional and national artists. It continues to enhance the study environments across the University campus.

The collection has grown to over 1000 paintings, drawing, watercolours and prints. The artworks echo our regional character, history and broader themes of significance to the University. It is a connection point for cultural and educational bodies and the wider community.

Exhibitions and displays

A large proportion of the UNE Art Collection is on display throughout the campus in both public and private areas. Annual exhibitions across the University, and externally with cultural partners,

  • interpret and communicate the collection,
  • foster engagement with creative practice,
  • explore diversity and growth in arts education.

The University of New England School’s Acquisitive Art Prize (UNESAP) was established in 2004. It reaches across the region to showcase and celebrate creative learning from Kindergarten to Year 12. The annual UNESAP exhibition is held in partnership with the New England Regional Art Museum.
