Centralised IT Asset Management

UNE has now moved to centralised model for procuring computers, computer equipment and mobile devices such as tablets and phones. Prior to this change each department and faculty would independently procure their assets. This responsibility has been moved to TDS to procure, manage, maintain, and retire computers and associated equipment.

What does this mean and how does it affect you?

Upon commencing employment or a PhD at UNE, you can request a workstation to be issued to you. You are eligible to request anything within our ‘standard’ set up. Please see below:

Professional and Academic staff - Standard Workstation
  • 1 Dell laptop (Latitude 54xx series)
  • 2 monitors
  • 1 headset
  • 1 docking station
  • Mouse and keyboard (if preferred)
PhD Students - Standard Workstation*
  • 1 laptop
  • 1 monitor
  • 1 headset
  • 1 docking station
  • Mouse and keyboard (if preferred)

*Undergraduates and postgraduates by coursework are not entitled to a UNE workstation. Dixson Library does offer UNE students laptop loans - for more information, visit Laptop Loans, or contact the Dixson Library.

All UNE devices will come with our standard operating environment (SOE), this applies to Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS devices. Technical specifications of the standard set up can be found here:

UNE Standard Hardware Setup

When finishing employment at UNE or your studies, it is your responsibility to return the equipment to TDS (Technical and Digital Services). If you are a supervisor at UNE, you will need to be aware that this equipment belongs to TDS and at the end of an employee’s tenure or PhD student’s candidature, it needs to be returned. This is to ensure we have adequate stock levels, the health of the asset is maintained correctly, and to wipe the data off the machine to maintain privacy and confidentiality of the previous owner.

Affiliates and Contractors

For affiliates and contractors with established UNE accounts, we can provide a degree of standard issued equipment. This can be requested by the approving officer within UNE, the approving officer will be responsible to the return equipment at the expiry of the affiliate account. This will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Remote Off-Campus Workers

If you are working remotely, we can only supply to you 1 laptop and 1 headset. As per the work from home policy you are to supply your own equipment. For additional information please see Part B, Term 2 of the working remotely application terms and conditions.
