UNE Chancellor Mr James Harris said Professor Moran is an experienced and respected university leader with an academic background in agriculture, natural resources and sustainable development. He is currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research at Curtin University.
“Professor Moran brings a commitment to working with UNE to support our aspirations in research, education, community engagement and workplace culture,” Mr Harris said.
“The appointment follows a comprehensive search in Australia and internationally over the last six months, with consultation with UNE staff and stakeholders.
“The Selection Committee recognised the high calibre of applicants for this role, however were ultimately unanimous in recommending to Council the appointment of Professor Moran.”
Prof. Moran is an alumnus of the University of Sydney, spent his early career in CSIRO then went on to the University of Queensland, and Curtin University.
He said he is excited to reconnect with rural New South Wales where he spent a great deal of his youth, and getting to know the people in this historic institution, its community and collaborating partners.
“The rural, metro-Sydney and online identities of UNE provide unparalleled opportunities to expand upon the reputation of UNE as the state leader in providing excellent student experiences and practical life-long outcomes,” Prof. Moran said.
“My partner is a General Practitioner and with our two young children we are very much looking forward to becoming a part of the New England community.”
The University Council thanks and acknowledges the significant contribution of Professor Simon Evans in leading the University as Interim Vice-Chancellor since August 2022.
Professor Evans’ steady hand has been widely appreciated across the University community in progressing the delivery of UNE’s strategic objectives.
Professor Evans will remain Interim Vice-Chancellor until the commencement of the incoming Vice-Chancellor in the coming months.
