Rare Books Collection

A collection of items which need special care, due to their age, value, condition or content.

It is particularly strong in natural history, and in the early atlases and voyages relating to the European exploration of the Australian continent,

This collection includes several thousand books and periodicals, including
  • early printed work
  • first editions
  • limited editions
  • illustrated works, with an emphasis on Australiana.

Location: Rare Books Room, on Level 1 of Dixson Library.

Access conditions

UNE students and staff

To access materials in this collection:

  1. Sign-into Library Search
  2. Find your item and click on the title link.
  3. Scroll down to the Get it section.
  4. Select Borrow from UNE
  5. Complete your request form, including the date after which the item is no longer required
  6. Submit your request.
Community and other researchers

To access materials in this collection,

  • search the collection to identify individual items
  • submit a request for these items.

If we approve your request, we will retrieve the items for you to view and read in Dixson Library. Please submit your request at least 3 working days before your visit to Dixson Library.
