Many of our collections offer valuable and useful resources for our broader community. We aim to assist the community with access to and use of these unique resources.

Need help? We offer online and in person appointments.

Some material is only available for research and study in our Reading Room. Make an appointment with the details of the material you would like to access.

When you visit us, bring your own:

  • camera/tablet/smartphone; and
  • pencils and stationery for taking notes.

If you can't visit us in person we may be able to copy and send resources to you. Learn how to access our Copy Services. Availability depends on the conditions of access of individual items. Charges apply.

Conditions of access

Access is dependent on relevant:

  • copyright and other intellectual property rights legislation;
  • confidentiality and privacy legislation;
  • donor restrictions and UNE governance; and
  • State Archive access directions.

We may also limit access if items are fragile or at risk of deterioration from handling.

Requests to publish UNE archival material

Requests to publish material from the UNE and Regional Archives can be made using this Permissions form. These requests are subject to further access conditions regarding:

  • copyright and other intellectual property rights legislation;
  • confidentiality and privacy legislation; and
  • donor restrictions and UNE governance.
Photography and social media

Please ask for permission before taking photographs of archival material in the Reading Room for personal use. Photographs of UNE Archives and Heritage Centre material are subject to relevant:

  • copyright and other intellectual property rights legislation;
  • confidentiality and privacy legislation; and
  • donor restrictions and UNE governance.

No flash photography is allowed in the Reading Room due to preservation issues. Do not make copies or publish photographs without authorisation: this includes social media.
