Mike Terry

Mike TerryMike is a photographer and filmmaker based in Armidale, NSW.

Mike got his start as a photographer with a small newspaper at 16 and worked as a photojournalist and multimedia producer in the US and internationally until 2011.

He earned a BA in Communications from the University of Utah (USA) in 2010 and was awarded a Fine Art Graduate Scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in 2011 through which he earned an MA in Visual & Media Anthropology from the Freie Universität Berlin in 2013. Mike worked as a producer at Studio Richter Mahr in Berlin and the UK from 2014 – 2020, with European composer Max Richter and filmmaker Yulia Mahr after which he relocated to Australia.

Mike works in photography, collage, and film for editorial, agricultural, and commercial clientele internationally and held a lectureship at the Freie Universität Berlin and the Hochschule für Medien, Kunst und Wissenschafft Berlin in arts education and visual anthropology from 2014-2024.

He released the documentary film ROLA (Stone) with Palaeontologist Dr Marissa Betts on the overlap of Aboriginal History and Western Geo-Science in the Armidale region in 2023 which was awarded best film in the UNESCO supported Earth Futures Film Festival. He and Dr Betts are currently in postproduction on their second feature-length documentary film which explores access in the geo-sciences.
