An asterisk (*) replaces multiple characters. Enter cultur* to search for records that contain culture, cultural, and culturally. An asterisk is particularly useful when spelling conventions differ between the Australia and the United States (humor/humour).

Use AI (Artificial Intelligence) search tools

Q. How do I find information with a Natural Language or AI Assisted Search?

A. Type in your search using normal spoken language. You don't need to use Boolean Operators, keywords or alternative search terms.

Q. What is the difference between Natural Language and AI Assisted Search?

A. Both Natural Language and AI Assisted Searches use Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Natural Language Search uses AI to create an Advanced Search using your free text query.

AI Assisted Search goes further. It uses AI to generate a

  • short list of 5 highly relevant results with overviews and links to the full text.
  • general summary to answer your specific research question. This summary includes references to the source articles in text.
  • link to the full list of results available in the traditional search interface.
  • few alternate search prompts to help focus your research.
Q. What if Natural Language Search doesn't find the information I need?

A. The Natural Language Search will create a complex Advanced Search using your prompt. You can review and edit this Advanced Search to improve your search results.

Q. Can I use the AI Assisted Search for my academic research?

A. Check the Assessment details in your MyLearn course to see if AI use is restricted.

Q. How do I reference the AI Assisted Search summary?

A. Instead of referencing the summary, use the citations within it to find the information in its original source. Then reference the original article or paper the concept came from.

If you would like to quote the AI  generated summary directly, use the guidelines outlined within your referencing style.
