We are committed to providing an enduring repository for unique material that informs our regional history.

Our collection

We accept donations that support the research, teaching and learning priorities of our staff, students and the community of the New England region.

We collect material that relates to

  • the social history of the New England region
  • the University of New England (UNE), or one of our precursor institutions. (New England University College, Armidale Teachers College, and Armidale College of Advanced Education)

That material includes (but is not limited to):

  • archival and heritage material,
  • local history items and community records including
    • maps,
    • photographs,
    • documents,
    • rural station and grazier records,
    • business and community organisation records, and
    • personal papers of significant local people and their families.
  • AV materials documenting regional stories
  • curated digital collections
  • published works focused specifically on New England regional history
  • realia and regalia from UNE and precursor institutions (e.g. graduation gowns, banners, crests and plaques).

Conditions of donation

The donation process involves the legal transfer of material to the University of New England. To donate you will need to:

  • Ensure that you are the legal owner of the items.
  • Understand the copyright and access restrictions that might be attached to your materials.

Our staff are unable to accept unsolicited material at the Archives Reading Room.
