Hoddinott Collection

A collection of recordings and field notes of Aboriginal peoples speaking in their own languages. Witten and recorded by W G Hoddinott and his associate researchers during 1965–1984.

This collection contains:

  • photocopies of historic books and articles on Aboriginal languages
  • field notes, verb files, notebooks, vocabulary and word lists
  • transcriptions and audio recordings of languages of the
    • NSW North Coast and New England areas,
    • Daly River and East Kimberley Regions.

Access conditions

In accordance with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Material and Intellectual Property Guidelines, UNE is committed to obtaining the informed consent of Aboriginal stakeholders before allowing access to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural materials held within UNE Collections. To obtain this permission, individuals must provide UNE with a completed:

  2. Deed of Indemnity
  3. Browse the collection to identify individual items. Complete our online form to request access to these items.

If we approve your request, we will retrieve the items for you to view and read in Dixson Library. Please submit your request at least 3 working days before your visit to Dixson Library. Direct access to the Hoddinott Collection is not available.
