Digital Landscapes

The Digital Landscapes Team (also known as the Learning Environments, or LE, team) is a small team in Digital Education that manages UNE’s virtual learning environment (VLE), with specific focus on the Learning Management System (LMS). The team works closely with other DigEd teams, especially LD and OLX as well as with the development, training and support teams in TDS and frequently provides advice, data and solutions to UNE initiatives in Education Futures and beyond.

Processes

Regular business processes we undertake include:

  • Update Teaching Online and Learning Online (regularly)
  • Set up teaching periods in Moodle (May - June)
  • Open Universities Australia offerings (4 - 1 week before sites go live)
  • Turnitin Originality Self Check (4 - 1 week before sites go live)
  • Remove access to old Turnitin Originality Self Check site (1 week after sites go live)
  • User tours (4 - 1 week before sites go live)
  • Reports for Learning Technologies Operations group (1 weeks and 2 days before go live)
  • Teaching sites are live block (go live date)
  • Callista grade export (at least 2 weeks before the end of trimester)
  • Teaching is over survey block
  • Archiving sites
  • Add new users to the all coordinators mailing list (at least annually)
  • Check/update enrolment for students that have changed username (monthly and before grades are due)
  • Monthly releases (OpenLMS / Moodle): OpenLMS has a monthly update cycle for security releases, plugin updates and custom development. These are managed via OpenLMS’s Jira platform and discussed in fortnighly planning meetings.
