Ian has a degree in the earth sciences and postgraduate qualifications in resource management and statistics. He joined the Institute's predecessor, the Rural Development Centre, in 1985 and has undertaken a range of applied research and consultancy projects in fields such as professional, agricultural and adult education; environmental attitudes; agricultural extension evaluation, environmental and agricultural policy and climate change adaptation. He has a PhD in sociology from the Australian National University.
