Biography

Leopold is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at the University of New England. He has a PhD in accounting and is a Chartered Accountant (CA), a Certified Practicing Accounting (CPA), as well as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

He is an active business and accounting education researcher with a focus on the development of future focused curricula in higher education. His research aims to enable future graduates to provide meaningful contributions to global societal challenges through developing frameworks that embed holistic educational principles in the Australian and international university environment. Leopold as publications in leading international journals und undertaken numerous invited presentations in national and international research forums.

Leopold has several cross-disciplinary research teams, both nationally and internationally,  and works extensively with accounting firms and Australian accounting bodies to further his research agenda and disseminate the findings of his research. Since 2017, Leopold has been a mentor and invited presenter at the annual CPA Australia Emerging Educators Forum - which is Australia leading developmental program for emerging accounting academics. In addition, he is a management committee member of the AFAANZ Accounting Education Special Interest Group, and leads several education projects with the UNE Faculty of Science, Agriculture, Business and Law.

Leopold’s teaching focuses on financial accounting and auditing for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in a face-to-face and distance learning environment. Leopold has received numerous institutional, national and international awards for his innovative use of technology in teaching, including an OLT teaching excellence award and OLT citation in 2014, and an ASCILITE innovation award in 2015.
