Oorala Merit Prize

For Enabling, Undergraduate and Postgraduate Course Students

The Oorala Merit Prize is designed to recognise high performing Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students' success.

The prize will be awarded annually to five undergraduate students from each of the Faculties, who have completed a minimum of 72 credit points. Additionally, three TRACKS students and three students in the Pathway Enabling program who have successfully completed their course and are enrolled in an undergraduate degree at UNE will also be considered for a Merit Prize.

The prizes will be awarded to students with the highest course GPA at the time of selection. Student can be awarded the Merit Prize only once throughout their studies at UNE.

Eligibility criteria:

  1. Recipients must be an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and must satisfy the Confirmation of Aboriginality Criteria.
    1. Confirmation of Aboriginality and Torres Strait Islander Identity Rule  (UNE)
    2. Confirmation of Aboriginality and Torres Strait Islander Identity Procedures (UNE)
  2. Recipients must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate unit of study.
  3. Enabling Course students must have completed their course requirements in the previous academic year and currently enrolled in an undergraduate unit of study at UNE.
  4. Undergraduate students to be considered must have completed a minimum of 72 credit points.
    1. Undergraduate students who transition into an Honours degree in the same academic year as their graduation are eligible to receive a merit prize. The number of Honours merit prizes is variable.
Additional Information for Merit Prize:
  1. All Oorala Merit Prizes are offered annually.
  2. Oorala Merit Prizes can be won once only during the course of your studies.
  3. Undergraduate prizes to be offered to five students from each faculty* who achieved the highest course GPA who meet all other eligibility criteria.
  4. Enabling Course prizes to be offered to one TRACKS student and one Pathway Enabling student who achieved the highest course GPA at the completion of their course and meet all other eligibility criteria.
  5. The Oorala Merit Prize is limited to 5 prizes per faculty* and 3 prizes for a TRACKS student and 3 prizes for a Pathways Enabling student.
  6. Scholarship will be awarded in trimester 2 only.
