Exporting Biologicals

Defence Strategic Goods List and Autonomous Sanctions

The Australian Federal Government regulates the export of certain controlled goods and an export licence is required for many of these materials.

Some Toxins and Human, Animal and Plant pathogens are on the list and the list includes any genetic modifications or genetic elements of any of these pathogens (i.e. GM material is still controlled under its parent organism even if the GM component is not listed individually).

If you have a Department of Defence export licence please ensure full compliance with all licence conditions and send a copy to the IBC.  More information is available directly from the Department of Defence.

Furthermore, exports of militarily sensitive materials and intangibles such as data or expertise/advice to particular countries/nations is prohibited under the Autonomous Sanctions Regulation – further information is available from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
