Water Governance, Management and Trade in the Northern MDB, Provision of Advice for Further Research

The formation of the Murray Darling Basin Authority and the development of the Basin Plan affords an opportunity to consider what might constitute an ideal governance system for the water resources of the Basin. This project reviewed the international literature on water resource governance, and consulted with stakeholders in the Basin to gain an understanding of their needs from a governance system. From the analysis of these sources, the study outlined the features of an ideal governance system and these findings supported the development of the Basin Plan and ongoing community debate about access to water resources.
