Socio-Economic Analysis of the Impact of the Reduction in Groundwater Allocations in the Namoi Valley

This research examined the socio-economic impacts in a rural region of a change in a State Government policy. The policy change was a new Groundwater Water Sharing Plan for irrigators in the Namoi Valley of New South Wales. The study was carried out by a team led by Dr Roy Powell of the Centre for Agricultural and Regional Economics, and included Dr Judith McNeill and Richard Stayner from the Institute for Rural Futures at the University of New England. Its purpose was to provide guidance to an advisory committee of the region's Area Consultative Committee charged with implementing a Structural Adjustment Package provided by the Commonwealth Government.
