Agricultural and Natural Resource Policy History of the Murray Darling Basin

This project examined the evolution of agricultural and natural resource management policy in the MBD during the twentieth century. It identified the major influences on policy during this period, canvassed critical policy issues and made recommendations for future policy directions.

The project involved a literature review and the preparation of an overview report which was presented to a workshop in May, 2001. From the outcomes of the workshop a number of papers, on specific policy issues were prepared. These dealt with regional development, legal issues relating to water use, resource governance and integrated catchment management, and human dimensions of structural change.
