Networks

"Some of the best advice about how to make my project work came from other postgrad students."

Building professional networks is one of the most important tasks in the first year of a PhD. At this stage, you may not know now when and how certain people may be able to help you and your project (and vice versa) but don't wait until you need help before identifying potential sources of assistance.

Time and effort spent now on developing a supportive and stimulating network of colleagues and associates will pay off down the track. Believe us - no student completes a PhD entirely on his/her own!

So get active now and start thinking about your local research community and ways to get more involved.
