Borrowing from home
Who can use this service?
All online students living outside the Armidale (2350) and Uralla (2358) postal districts.
What can be borrowed?
You can borrow the same material as students on campus. Requests for book and other physical items should be made through Search.
You can also use Search to request digital copies of book chapters, articles from paper journals and most other physical materials. To access borrowing and requesting services, online students must sign in first.

Requests for copies of Case Law Reports should be are made through our online forms.
If the book you require is available for loan, we will send it within two working days. If it is unavailable at the time, we will spend up to 5 working days attempting to source it before contacting you.
We cannot send books from closed collections such as the Reserve. However, we can scan and email copies of 1 chapter or 10% of a book to your UNE email address. If you don't know what chapter you want from a book, just request the contents pages.

The Library will also copy articles from paper journals in our collection on your behalf.
Please note that books are sent to the address you have given the University. If you require loans to be sent to another address for any reason, please change your address in MyUNE.
The duration of loans and the number of items you are allowed to borrow depend on your enrolment. Loan terms can be shortened if a book is recalled by another client.
Fines and renewals
All items are subject to recall and can be renewed unless they have been requested by another client. Library notifications are sent to your UNE email account. Please read recall notices carefully as the due date may have been changed.

Returning items by mail
Return postage for items borrowed by online students within Australia is paid by the UNE Library.
You will now find a reply-paid return label in your package. Library items are to be returned by the due date with the reply-paid label affixed to the parcel.
Please make every effort to ensure that items reach the Library by the due date and to wrap books securely for despatch. Padded bags or bubble wrap will help ensure that loans survive the journey.

Free tracking labels
The use of free Australia Post tracking labels is strongly recommended. These tracking labels are free and they will ensure that you can trace the return of Library items back to UNE. For more information, contact your local Australia Post Office.
Returning loans in person
When the University Library is open, loans should be dropped through the returns chute near the Service Desk in the Foyer. After hours, please use the chute beside the University Library's front door. Loans can also be returned at the Law Library.
