SIX reasons why
HUNDREDS of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at UNE are working with a FREE tutor supplied by the Oorala Aboriginal Centre:
1. Help with Transition to university life
Starting out at university is a challenge for everyone. You may have come straight from school, or have been working for a number of years, and have made the decision to further your education. Our tutors understand, having been through it themselves, and are there to share their tips and tricks.
2. Create Positive Study Habits
If you are just starting at UNE, or just starting a subject area for the first time, you might find some new ideas difficult at first. Often, if you understand the first building blocks of an area of knowledge, you can build from there. Get a tutor to help you through that difficult first stage.
3. Assessments and Exam Revision
When it comes to major assignments and exam preparation it’s hard to know if you are on the right track. A tutor can help you get organised, provide feedback throughout your planning, talk through some of your ideas, and help keep you focus on the tasks ahead.
4. One-on-one Learning
Busy lecture theatres, or working alone online, can be isolating. When working one-on-one with a qualified tutor you will feel connected, allowing you to bounce your ideas off someone.
5. Building Confidence
Half the battle to be successful at uni is having confidence in your own ability. A tutor with experience in your subject area can build your confidence and help you to succeed.
6. Training in Your Strengths
Tutoring is available for all your units. A tutor will support you in the unit where you are strong, as well as ones you find more difficult.
